3.  We are very interested in purchasing an electric scooter or power wheelchair. My mother has Parkinson's and has difficulty getting around after a few minutes. Does Medicare pay for this?

Medicare has certain coverage criteria that must be met before they will pay for equipment.  For a scooter or power chair to be considered medically necessary, all of the following coverage criteria must be met:

bulletYour condition is such that a wheelchair is required for you to get around in your home, You are unable to operate a manual wheelchair,
bulletYou are capable of safely operating the controls of the scooter or power chair, and
bulletIn addition, a patient who requires a scooter usually cannot perform functional ambulation skills and has limited strength or use of the upper extremities.  The patient should also have adequate trunk stability to "hold" themselves upright in the seat.  Note: An individual who requires a power wheelchair is totally non-ambulatory and has severe weakness of the upper extremities that prevents them from self-propelling in a manual wheelchair.

6.  How long will it take to get my equipment?

Most products ship within 1-2 days after you place an order.  Then, our standard delivery is ground, which will probably require an additional 7-10 business days.  However, this can vary anywhere from one week to 3 weeks, depending on seasonal demand.  Please contact us if you are interested in a price quote for faster delivery.

7.  How often should I charge my scooter or power wheelchair batteries?

When your equipment first arrives at your home you should charge it for a full 8 to 10 hours before riding it. Then, when you use it during the day...charge it overnight...every night. It's important not to leave your scooter or power wheelchair plugged in all the time. This will shorten the life of your battery charger and your batteries. If you are storing your unit, or not using it for a prolonged period of time, be sure and charge your batteries once or twice a month. The average life expectancy of your batteries is one to two years.

8.  Do you handle insurance?

At this time, Northwest Mobility does not accept insurance or Medicare. However, we do provide our customers with the information they need to obtain the maximum amounts in reimbursements. The reason we do not accept assignment is simple. We cannot take full advantage of discounts from the manufacturers if we do not pay our invoices off within 10 days. Medicare and private insurance companies normally take 30-60 days. In short, we do all we can to give you "Mobility, Freedom, & Independence" at the lowest possible prices!

9.  What is your return policy?

Other than returns under warranty, the re-stocking fee varies by manufacturer and by product/model number.  Some models are considered "custom" and can not be returned to the manufacturer.  Please contact us for specifics about the product (s) you are considering.  It is our goal to make sure your needs are filled and that you have chosen the right product before we ship anything to you.
